How do you brighten up a rainy Monday afternoon? A Munki Munki quilt is a good solution. Five Munki Munki quilts is a better one.
Check out what Faith of Fresh Lemons did with five cute quilt blocks:

I just love the rainbow effect of all of these hanging together. It’s a wonderful way to use up random orphan blocks, either for a bunch of gifts, or to group together on a wall. And with some of the Munki Munki prints being rare and/or expensive, it’s a great method for getting a ton of mileage out of a small number of scraps.
I’ve been spending a lot of time over at Quilted Nest, because the only thing better than lots of great quilt pics are lots of great pics of quilts in cozy homes.
Preferably with kitties.

La vida compartida calls this “my brother’s quilt,” and it really is prefect for a guy. The simple lines and strong colors are masculine without reverting to the old “blue is for boys” trope. And the log cabins are GORGEOUS – it’s nice that they’re small in number, so that the cute hodgepodge of fabric can really be appreciated in one eyeful.
Speaking of cute fabric, I love the styling with these pillows. They really complete the look without femming things up too much.
And then there’s the kitty. Yay, kitties!

I love this quilt by CampFollowerBagLady. It’s made from the log cabin pattern in Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts, and apparently only took her 12 hours! Amazing! I love the classic Amy Butler prints, the sweet color palette, and the adorable addition of the appliqued circles.
AND, it’s called Norberta the Green Giant. If that’s not creative, I don’t know what is!
I’m posting Brittney Michelle’s cute Log Cabin Polka top today because I’m really having a love affair with small quilts that are just four blocks.

Each of these blocks is probably around 18″, which, when you think about it, isn’t really THAT much bigger than the standard 12″. But it’s kind of amazing how much design she’s packed into each block:

Even more amazing is how just four, rotated to form a center cross, can form such an explosion of color.
I’m definitely adding this to my baby quilt inspiration list. The fabrics are so pretty without being too sweet, and the bold strokes lend themselves really well to a unisex design. And at 36″ square, all it needs is a border to be a generous crib size!

Let’s talk about this quilt:

I love this quilt. Don’t you love this quilt? It’s by joystitch (austysmum on flickr), and I seriously doubt my ability to make a quilt like this.
Know why?
Because ever since I started quilting almost 15 years ago, I started seeing the world as a giant grid. Like, look at the scene in front of you and superimpose the lines from a sheet of graph paper overtop. That’s pretty much my worldview. So when I saw this quilt, in which the top row and the bottom row are made up of little blocks that are not even of uniform width, it was like I’d stepped into the Land of Oz or something.
In a good way, of course.
This quilt is a good lesson for me. Could I make something like this? Of course. Do I make things like this? No, because the thought doesn’t occur to me. That’s the problem with thinking outside the box/grid/whatever – you have to remember to do it!
So hats off to the maker of this adorable piece of art. You are an inspiration in the very best way!
